Have you begun experimenting with games or gamification for learning? Gaming offers talent development professionals with opportunities to further engage learners and achieve intended outcomes. Watch as game developers use their expertise to cook-up and "gamify" training using different tools and methodologies! You’ll sit in the heat of the training kitchen while you observe, ask questions and join our interactive discussion of gamification for learning. Together, we'll consider these and other questions:

  • What opportunities does gaming present for learning?
  • What challenges does gaming present and how can I overcome these challenges?
  • How can I implement learning games and gamification?

Donald Michaels – FM Global

For the past 20 years, I have designed and developed learning in a variety of delivery modes (eLearning, video, simulation, virtual classroom, traditional instructor-led) in a variety of industries (commercial property insurance, residential energy efficiency, construction management, software development and process improvement, commercial banking). I’m an avid game player outside of work and have long sought to leverage game mechanics to make learning more fun and engaging. I am currently pursuing my journeyman gamification certification through Sententia (I became an apprentice last year).

Tom Vasko – Partner/Vice President Innovative Technology. Trained as a graphic designer, PMP Certification from Villanova University, and Master of Managed Change ®, Tom has worked through the technology advances of the last 25 years and brings his unique point of view from his desire to innovate. He is a great example of i3Logic’s focus on bringing fresh approaches to managing client needs within the learning and performance industry. Tom has had the opportunity to share his concepts at Several “International ISPI Conferences”, “mLearnCon”, “DevLearn”, “SALT (Society for Advanced Learning Technologies) Conference”, and Trivantis Lectora Conferences.

Currently Tom is strategically working with several fortune 500 companies on the use of the Unity Gaming Engine to bring the “Xbox experience” to learners via the browser.

His most recent accomplishment was a project that started as a training program, that quickly evolved into an innovative solution for saving lives and significantly reducing costs for one of the world's largest and most respected chemical companies. This ground breaking approach was developed for the organization to truly assess their employee's applied understanding of Isolation of Energy strategies and Lockout/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures.

Combining cutting-edge online gaming technologies, 3D graphic modeling, Performance Improvement Standards, and the expertise of veteran subject matter experts, Tom designed a fully immersive LOTO performance assessment simulation to provide a real world experience without the risks of being in the field.
